Installing NFO on Windows
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing NetFlow Optimizer (NFO) on Windows Server environments. The Windows installation includes all necessary components, including the bundled External Data Feeder for NFO (EDFN).
Prerequisites
- Administrative Access: You must be logged in as an Administrator to run the installer and manage services.
- System Requirements: Ensure your host meets the memory and CPU requirements outlined in the NFO Installation Guide: System Requirements & Sizing.
- Windows Script Host (WSH): WSH must be enabled (it is enabled by default in most environments).
- Browser Support: Use a modern browser (Microsoft Edge, Chrome, or Firefox) to access the management interface.
Installation Procedure
- Download the Installer: Obtain the NFO Windows installation package (
.exe.zip) from the NetFlow Logic Downloads page and unzip it. - Launch the Setup: * Right-click the installation file and select Run as Administrator.
- Click Next to begin the NetFlow Optimizer Setup wizard.
- Choose Location: Click Next to install NFO in the default directory:
C:\Program Files\NetFlow Logic\NetFlow Optimizer. - Install: Click Install to begin the process. The wizard will configure the necessary services automatically.
- Complete: Click Finish to exit the installer.
Post-Installation Steps
1. Access the Management Interface
Once the installation is complete, you can access the NFO Web UI to apply your license and begin configuration:
- Locally: Navigate to Start Programs NetFlow Logic NetFlow Optimizer.
- Remotely: Open a browser and go to
https://<nfo-host>:8443, where<nfo-host>is the IP address or hostname of the server.
2. Verify Services
NFO runs as a Windows service. You can verify the status by opening Services (services.msc) and ensuring the following services are Running:

Next Steps
Once the services are started, complete your setup in the Web Interface:
- Access the UI: Navigate to
https://<nfo-host>:8443in a supported browser. - Apply License: Log in and go to Licensing to upload your license file.
- Configure: Ingestion, Outputs, and Modules.
- Verify Health: Use the NFO Status page to confirm the engine is ready to process data.
